At Voortman Steel Machinery, we develop, build and test innovative machines and production lines for the steel processing industry. This all takes place at our head office in Rijssen, and from production the machines are shipped to our customers worldwide. Installation, commissioning and maintenance of these machines and systems also takes place worldwide.

What are you going to do?

SAP is the ERP System of Voortman. SAP is a leading enterprise software application/suite that helps businesses manage various aspects of their operations, including finance, supply chain, HR and more. Currently we have SAP On premise, which means we are hosting it on our local servers and the IT of Voortman is taking care of sufficient resources and uptime.

Even though you have complete control over your hardware and data, the popularity of Cloud solutions is growing more and more. Also within Voortman we run a lot of applications in the Cloud. There are quite some benefits of moving to the Cloud and according SAP’s philosophy they also advise customers to make that move. In our daily work we don’t experience major issues, but regarding integrations from and to SAP it’s sometimes hard to setup connections easily.

The purpose of this assignment is to conduct an analysis of hosting SAP in the cloud. As businesses increasingly consider migrating their SAP systems to the cloud, the goal is to present an advisory report which explains if the move to the Cloud should be made or not and it is essential to understand the key differences, advantages and challenges associated with this move.
