DIGI-STEEL is a start-up and member of the Voortman Steel Group, which is one of the market leaders for steel machinery. With DIGI-STEEL we introduce the first fully cloud-based software solution for steel processing industries. It is the next generation steel workshop management software guiding our customer’s factories into the smart industry 4.0 era.

What are you going to do?

EVI is a cloud-based application which translates machine data into useful insights. These insights are made available to customers via the EVI application, but are also used internally as input for analysis and time studies. Large part of this machine data is retrieved from VACAM, which is the (in-house developed) software running on the machine. Voortman offers multiple machine types, each running on a different version of the VACAM software. Also, a lot of individual machines containing different VACAM versions exist per machine type. This results in two challenges for EVI:

  • Keeping track of which bugs are part of which VACAM versions
  • Keeping track of which features are part of which VACAM versions

Currently there is no way to keep track of this. Lacking a clear overview comes with negative consequences like the same bugs occurring on multiple machines without us being able to prevent this.

The objective of this assignment is to build a standalone application that provides an overview of the bugs and features per VACAM version. For example by combining the VACAM source code with the available info in EVI. Furthermore, the other part of the assignment is to come up with a plan on how to integrate this with the current EVI application.
