DIGI-STEEL is revolutionizing the steel processing industry with its fully cloud-based software solution. Our goal is to guide steel processors into the Industry 4.0 era, making their operations more efficient and productive. In this assignment we focus on the plate processing customers.

What are you going to do?

The plate processing industry involves a series of intricate steps, and efficient scheduling is crucial. These steps include cutting, deburring, beveling, drill/tap, bending, and coating. Clients often plan the tasks at a high level, which in practice is often a week per station. However, this approach can lead to scheduling challenges, prolonged lead times, and increased in-process inventory.

The primary objective of this assignment is to develop a high-level job shop scheduling system tailored to the unique requirements of the plate processing industry. Our ultimate aim is to create a schedule that ensures the timely completion of each step in the process, meeting due dates efficiently. While future assignments may involve designing scheduling algorithms at the operational step level, for now, we will focus on implementing a basic algorithm, such as "first come, first served".

This assignment includes several key tasks:

  • Investigating existing job shop scheduling algorithms and their limitations.
  • Developing an innovative and advanced job shop scheduling algorithm tailored to the specific needs of the plate processing industry.
  • Validating the new algorithm through practical tests and comparisons with existing solutions.

We offer

  • Internship allowance: €400 or €450 (upon graduation) per month;
  • Travel allowance: so you do not incur unnecessary expenses;
